I absolutely love puzzles! They’re so meditating, while still challenging the brain. And when you connect that last puzzle piece, the overwhelming sense of accomplishment rains down on you like a monsoon in the desert.
That’s why I love this project. But it’s much more than just connecting the pieces. This project is a memory and it’s fun for all ages! With a few simple supplies, you can make a lasting memory that’s fun for the whole family. This activity makes game night look lame.
What You’ll Need
Step 1: Draw Puzzle Out
With your cardboard in front of you, grab your sharpie marker and start drawing puzzle pieces until the entire cardboard is filled up.
Step 2: Design your Puzzle
This is the super fun part where you can get your whole family involved! Come up with a design like a boat, a meadow, or just a cool art deco design. Draw it out, preferably with a color other than black so you don’t mix it up with the puzzle pieces you created. I did this DIY puzzle with my 3-year old son so we just jumped right to step 3.
TIP: While making your design, try to make the knobs big for easy cutting.
Step 3: Color in Your Puzzle
Once you’re done drawing out your design for your puzzle, time to color it in! Again, get the whole family involved! You can use crayons and colored pencils too but I used markers because they’re more vibrant.
TIP: As you can see by our very colorful puzzle, you may want to keep this project for children who are five or older. 😉
Step 4: Cut Out the Puzzle Pieces
After you’re done coloring your masterpiece, all you have to do left is cut out your puzzle pieces.
TIP: The best way to do this is to open your scissors all the way and use it like an x-acto knife.
And that’s it! Four supplies. Four steps. So easy. So fun! Create holiday themed puzzles. Send a secret message in a DIY puzzle. Make a gift out of it! This craft is definitely one to keep in the back of your mind at all times.
